Sex vs Gender

 SEX VS GENDER

This isn’t an event experience, but I found that many people, even during the parade, did not know or understand the difference between the word ‘sex’ and the word ‘gender’

I think the most basic way of explaining would be their definitions

Sex

the state of being male or female

either of the two major forms of individuals that occur in many species and that are distinguished respectively as female or male especially on the basis of their reproductive organs and structures

Gender

the fact of being male or female, especially when considered with reference to social and cultural differences, rather than differences in biology; members of a particular gender as a group

The term gender is also used more broadly to mean a range of identities that do not necessarily fit in with the usual division between male and female.

a subclass within a grammatical class (such as noun, pronoun, adjective, or verb) of a language that is partly arbitrary but also partly based on distinguishable characteristics (such as shape, social rank, manner of existence, or sex) and that determines agreement with and selection of other words or grammatical forms

In concise, In both people and animals, the term "sex" refers to a set of biological characteristics. Psycho-physiological characteristics, such as chromosomes, gene expression, hormone levels and functions, and reproductive/sexual anatomy are primarily involved. Although sex is typically classified as either female or male, there are differences in the biological characteristics that make up sex and how those characteristics are exhibited.

The socially constructed roles, behaviors, expressions, and identities of girls, women, boys, men, and persons of all genders are referred to as gender. It affects how individuals behave and interact, how they see themselves and other people, and how power and resources are distributed in society. Gender identity exists on a continuum and can evolve over time; it is not limited to a binary (girl/woman, boy/man). The roles that people and groups take on, the expectations that are placed on them, how they interact with others, and the nuanced ways that gender is institutionalized in society all contribute to the wide range of how people and groups interpret, experience, and express gender.

I also want to explain the difference between sexuality and gender, because, somehow, that is also a cause of confusion in many people.

All facets of who we are, including our values and beliefs, bodies, wants, relationships, gender, and our thoughts and feelings regarding each of these, are included in this understanding. Because our sexuality consists of so many diverse elements, each person's understanding of their own sexuality is different and always evolving.

The most crucial concept to grasp regarding sexuality is that it is self-described, meaning that each individual is free to discuss and comprehend their own sexuality in a manner that makes sense to them.

Since sexuality is dynamic and constantly evolving, we frequently find that several aspects of our lives may interact with one another in perplexing or gratifying ways. This is acceptable and is a natural component of how we grow. A major factor in determining our health and wellbeing is the exploration of our own sexuality, which should be based on the concepts of permission and sexual rights.
